Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey is responsible for the monetary and exchange rate policies in Turkey to achieve price stability. Coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 kurus and 1 lira. Bills come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (1881-1938) was an Army Officer, a Revolutionary and the 1st President of Turkey. He was the founder of the Republic of Turkey. He led the Turkish National Movement in the Turkish War of Independence. Many memorials such as Ataturk Bridge, Ataturk Dam, Ataturk International Airport, Ataturk Stadium and other Ataturk Statues were built to commemorate him.
